With the final Vote Forward letter writing campaign of 2021 behind us, I wanted to reflect on everything we’ve accomplished together this year.
- We ran our first experimental “Thank you for voting” campaigns, sending letters to first-time and infrequent 2020 voters in Georgia and Virginia to keep voters engaged between elections.
- We demonstrated the effectiveness of letters encouraging voters to vote by mail in Pennsylvania.
- We ran an experiment writing to voters in New Mexico, and found that highly-personal narrative messages written by trained volunteers may have performed better than our standard approach.
- We partnered with Voto Latino on English/Spanish bilingual letter writing campaigns in Atlanta and Miami.
- We launched a pilot letter kit program to supply 500 volunteers facing practical or financial barriers to participation with printed letter templates and all the materials necessary to write and send Vote Forward letters.
- Earlier this month, we shared our peer-reviewed analysis of the impact of The Big Send 2020, where we found that Vote Forward letter writing in 2020 was among the highest-impact, most effective voter turnout programs ever measured in a presidential election.
- And just last week, we completed the second wave of our Virginia letter writing campaigns where, in total, thousands of volunteers sent more than 1 million letters to voters ahead of Virginia's general elections this November.
