Dear supporter,
Thank you to everyone who prayed against the assisted suicide proposals debated in the House of Lords on Friday.
As expected, Baroness Meacher’s ‘Assisted Dying Bill’ passed its Second Reading, but it faces many more hurdles before it can become law.
Many peers made powerful speeches against allowing doctors in England and Wales to help terminally ill adults kill themselves. They recognised that the Bill was wide open to abuse. They also argued persuasively that changing the law would put vulnerable people under pressure to end their lives for fear of being a financial, emotional or care burden on others.
Watch now
The Government itself remains neutral on the issue but it has been reported that the Prime Minister and Health Secretary do not support removing end-of-life protections for vulnerable people.
Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly Deputy Director (Staff and Communications) The Christian Institute
