Here’s why this is so important to me...
On September 19, 2010, I was moving with my team along the deserts of Afghanistan, narrowing in on a high-value target. I was serving as a bomb technician in the U.S. Army, so it was my job to clear the way for the rest of our team by finding and disposing of any improvised explosives. I remember carefully stepping one foot at a time, when all of a sudden… BANG!
The next thing I knew, I was in Walter Reed Army Medical Center, staring down at the end of the bed where my legs should have been… but weren’t. I lost both of my legs and a finger fighting in the pursuit of peace. And while it changed my life forever, I have no regrets about my sacrifice - I did so to help my team, and their sacrifice saved my life, because we operate on a simple motto in the military: No Man Gets Left Behind.
