Run for Something

Election Day is one week from tomorrow, and we're supporting more than 150 candidates while also recruiting candidates for 2020 in key states. Can you throw a few bucks our way?

Hi there --

You don't have to take my word for it when I say our 2019 candidates are connecting with their communities -- you can read what those community members have to say. Here are three selections from letters to the editor to local papers in support of our candidates that I just really fucking love:

Burhan was born in Pakistan before he moved to the U.S. at age 4 and later graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After joining ABC, he organized student support for the Affordable Housing Overlay. In my activism experience, I know motivating dozens of young folks to show up for a zoning hearing is no easy feat, and Burhan [Azeem] has had unique success organizing so many young people to get involved with and care about complex policy issues. The younger generation will inherit the world we’re building now, it is essential that their voices be heard. -- LETTER: Burhan Azeem has unique success organizing young voters on behalf of Burhan Azeem

A young professional working in the technology sector, Jack can offer some innovative ideas for increasing access to our government. His willingness to try something different will energize the conversation at City Hall with new ways of thinking about old problems. Most of all, Jack is a great person. He is kind, smart and open to what others have to say. These are traits that will serve him well as a public servant. -- Jack Eccles: A Vote for Melrose's Future on behalf of Jack Eccles

Rachel was my student in AP U.S. History (APUSH) during her sophomore year at Ames High School. I wholeheartedly endorse Rachel for three reasons: she’s curious and knows how to learn, she thinks of leadership as service and her character qualifies her to represent Iowa State students to the city of Ames. What impressed me about Rachel as a high school student was that she would ask questions stemming from her curiosity rather than the “will this be on the test” syndrome. Every teacher knows that curious students are better than incurious ones... Rachel is the kind of person who knows how to learn because her perseverance is driven by a curiosity that fosters problem solving skills. -- Letter: Junck's dedication makes her qualified for Fourth Ward on behalf of Rachel Junck

This is real, on the ground organizing. It might not be glamorous, but it means a lot more than any paid ad, and we're so proud of Burhan, Jack, Rachel, and all of our 2019 candidates. We need to raise $1,000 today to continue running full steam ahead toward Election Day -- can you help with $10 or more?
