SCOTUS announced Friday that it will hear arguments against the controversial Texas abortion law on November 1st.

The challenges do not ask the Court to examine the substance of the Texas law ([link removed]) , which bans abortions after cardiac activity is detected and includes a unique provision ([link removed]) for enforcement: private citizens can sue clinics, doctors, nurses, and even people who drive a woman to get an abortion for at least $10,000.
Next Monday, the Court will hear challenges that concern whether Texas’s private enforcement scheme can be used to insulate the law from constitutional review by federal courts and whether the federal Dept. of Justice has the standing to obtain an injunction against the state of Texas and its agents or against all private parties.
It’s unclear how quickly the Supreme Court will issue a decision on the challenges to the Texas abortion law.

** Southern Border Arrests Hit All-Time High

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Friday released data that revealed a record number of people were apprehended attempting to enter the country illegally over the course of fiscal year 2021, which ended September 30th.
CBP apprehended 192,001 unauthorized immigrants in September, which brought the total number of apprehensions for FY2021 to 1,734,686. The number of unaccompanied minors apprehended on the Southern border in September was 14,358. That brought the FY2021 total to 146,925 apprehensions of unaccompanied minors, which also set an annual record.
