Despite the political games, I remain determined to get things done for the people of TX-02. Just this week, I had a drone bill advance through committee and co-wrote a letter to FEMA requesting swift approval of the City of Houston’s plan for debris removal around the San Jacinto mouth bar.

The situation in Syria is full of complexities and clouded with misleading talking points. Amidst the partisan rhetoric, it’s important to understand what factors need to be considered when making foreign policy decisions – and why pulling out of Syria was the wrong call.

The truth is that overall, the president’s foreign policy up until now has been well balanced between nation-building and pulling out troops entirely. But on this, I see the situation differently.

Last week, H.R. 4753 advanced through the House Committee on Homeland Security. The Drone Origin Security Enhancement Act, led by myself along with Ranking Member Mike Rogers and Representative Xochitl Torres Small, would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security from operating, providing financial assistance for, or entering into or renewing a contract for the procurement of an Unmanned Aerial System from China.

Drones play a significant role in foreign relations. As this technology continues to evolve, we must ensure that American drones are free from Chinese influence. I look forward to this bill getting a full vote in the House soon.

I sent a letter, along with Texas Senators Cornyn and Cruz and Representative Kevin Brady, to Acting FEMA Administrator Peter Gaynor urging FEMA’s swift approval of the City of Houston’s plan for debris removal around the San Jacinto river mouth bar. Previous assistance from FEMA has helped prevent further flooding in parts of northeast Houston, but the work is far from over.

The effects of Hurricane Harvey are still being felt in TX-02 and the greater Houston area. Additional dredging is needed to remove the remaining Hurricane Harvey debris and return the city to pre-event conditions.
