It's estimated that from 1990-2015, the richest 10% of the world's population were responsible for 52% of cumulative carbon emissions, while the poorest half of the world were responsible for only 7%. This means that groups that are already marginalized, including women and girls, LGBTI+ people and people living with disabilities, often suffer the greatest consequences.
Through the healthcare services we deliver via our Member Associations, IPPF will support individuals and communities to adapt to the impacts of the climate crisis, including through humanitarian action. But more must be done, urgently.
Effective, meaningful, and inclusive action is necessary to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, and it cannot wait. We hope that COP26 will be a productive opportunity to tackle these problems head on.
