My friend Terry McAuliffe is running for Governor in Virginia against Glenn Youngkin -- a right-wing extremist with a bottomless bank account and the backing of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Terry’s opponent says he’s proud to have Donald Trump’s endorsement. In fact, he’s said “Donald Trump represents so much of why I’m running.”

It’s more important than ever that we defend Democratic governorships from extremists like Glenn Youngkin, and Terry’s race was declared a “TOSS UP.” With just over a week until Election Day, it’s critical that we lend our support to Terry’s race.

Here’s the deal: When Democrats win governorships – we all win.

Currently in the U.S., 27 states and 1 territory are run by Republican governors. And when Republicans run state governments, we see spikes in voter suppression and anti-choice attacks. In 2021 so far, 19 states have enacted 33 laws that make it harder for Americans to vote and over 100 new limitations to abortion access.

Under Terry’s leadership, Virginia became one of the most welcoming and forward-looking states in the country. Terry restored voting rights to more people than any other Governor in history and blocked bills to restrict abortion rights and defund Planned Parenthood. If Glenn Youngkin wins, we can kiss all of that progress goodbye in favor of his far-right agenda.
