Common Dreams Home Page

Friend,

Common Dreams is approaching a milestone next year that I don’t really like to talk about.

It’s the 25th anniversary of our founding.

The reason I don’t like to talk about it isn’t just because it reminds me of how old I am. It’s because when we tell people that Common Dreams has been publishing for more than two decades, they tend to assume that we’ll be around forever.

But nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it’s more difficult for Common Dreams to survive today than ever before.

Every year, as tech giants like Facebook and Google intensify their stranglehold on the internet, a tiny handful of corporations are able to exert ever greater control over the news that people are allowed to see.

And these companies have absolutely no financial incentive to promote the reporting from nonprofit independent news outlets like Common Dreams—especially when some of our coverage is directly critical of the power they have assumed.

Big Tech is taking over the internet and is increasingly steering readers away from Common Dreams and toward the ad dollars of major corporations and industries. To survive, we need the millions of readers who value our work to support this model and mission.

Please chip in whatever you can afford, whether that’s $1, $15, $42, or more.

We need you now more than ever. Will you donate today to keep Common Dreams alive and strong?

DONATE NOW

With thanks,

Craig Brown
Co-Founder
for the whole Common Dreams news team

P.S. Common Dreams relies on its sustaining donors to make long-term plans to improve our reporting. Will you become a monthly donor today?
