GAETZ QUESTIONS AG MERRICK GARLAND AT JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HEARING
Merrick Garland’s DOJ refuses to protect the Department’s integrity and is completely politicized. Specifically, the Public Integrity Section under DOJ’s Criminal Division does not currently have a process to vet and refrain from hiring political operatives, lobbyists, and partisan congressional committee staff. The hyper political nature of these positions would prevent anyone from conducting the non-partisan work necessary to fulfill the mandate of the Public Integrity Section. Garland’s DOJ has no mechanism to prevent lobbyists from getting hired as his prosecutors. In the Judiciary Committee yesterday, I grilled AG Garland about this horrible practice, I told him it's as if we have a fox guarding the henhouse.

J6 COMMITTEE CONTINUES TO WASTE OUR TIME AND TAX DOLLARS
On Wednesday, the January 6 Committee continued its saga of distracting from America’s pressing problems: the Democrats and RINOS of that unselect committee are trying to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with their highly partisan and unproductive fake investigation. The Democrats continue these stunts to distract from America’s real crises of immigration, the destabilization of the dollar, the supply shortages, increasing inflation, and their inability to pass an infrastructure deal. What a sham. I took a stand against their political theater and reminded my colleagues in the majority that they are here to do their job as enumerated in the Constitution.

THE BIDEN IRS WANTS TO SURVEIL YOU
Obama and Biden stalwart Janet Yellen, a so-called economic expert of the Paul Krugman variety, wants to monitor all of your financial transactions. The constituents of Northwest Florida and all across this country have expressed vast dismay for this policy proposal, I agree it is completely out of line. This week, I joined a letter from Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06), addressing Janet Yellen and her unpopular policies that blatantly divert from the expressed concerns of our fellow Americans, greatly infringing on our privacy rights.

AMAZON AND BIG TECH MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
On Monday, October 18th, I joined four of my colleagues in signing a letter addressed to Andy Jassy, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Amazon.com Inc. We requested that he provide a sworn response to clarify how Amazon uses non-public individual seller data to develop and market its own line of products. Back in July of last year, Jeff Bezos testified in Congress and stated that his policy “prohibits the use of anonymized data, if related to a single seller, when making the decision to launch private brand products.” There have been multiple investigations showing results that contradict Mr. Bezos and Mr. Huseman’s statements. The unchecked power of Big Tech is one of the most existential threats to our nation. On behalf of my constituents, I signed this letter to demand we have full transparency from one of the largest companies in the world. Amazon’s anti-competitive practices run afoul of America’s legal standards.

GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS CALLS TO PROTECT JOBS IN TALLAHASSEE
Last week, Governor Ron DeSantis called for a Special Session of the Florida Legislature to stand up for Florida workers. During this Special Session, Gov. DeSantis is asking the Florida Legislature to provide protections for employees facing termination because of unfair and discriminatory COVID-19 vaccine mandates. He also wants to reaffirm that government entities, including school districts, may not fire any employee based on COVID-19 vaccine status.
DRUG PREVENTION GRANT AWARDED TO THE WALTON COUNTY PREVENTION COALITION
The Walton County Prevention Coalition in Defuniak Springs is a recipient of $125,000 through the Drug-Free Communities Support Program (DFC). The DFC seeks to implement evidence-based prevention programs at the local level, with the objective to prevent and reduce youth substance use. Healthy and safe communities in Northwest Florida are essential to success, and I am proud to share this news!
