Help hold our leaders accountable for their responsibility to protect endangered wildlife.

Dear Friend,
It’s no secret that we’re facing a biodiversity crisis. We’re losing more and more species to extinction, and wildlife populations as a whole are thinning out. Despite this threat, the previous administration worked overtime to destroy our best tool to fight the biodiversity crisis — the Endangered Species Act — by weakening its ability to protect critical habitats for wildlife.
We cannot thrive on an otherwise dead planet — we are dependent on healthy and biodiverse ecosystems for our continued survival. Our economic system, which places short-term profits ahead of healthy ecosystems, ignores our interdependence and is a key driver of the biodiversity crisis. Even as extinctions accelerate, polluters and their allied politicians are trying to convince us it’s not a crisis — because it’s easier to make money destroying habitat than protecting it.
We can — and must —create an economic system that prioritizes healthy ecosystems and communities. This won’t happen overnight, but we can start to turn the tide by using laws like the Endangered Species Act — a law that, at its core, recognizes that preventing extinctions should take precedent over polluter profits. Polluters and the Trump administration attacked and weakened the Endangered Species Act precisely because it threatens their extractive business model.
When we strengthen the Endangered Species Act and provide the political backing to utilize it, we give wolves, panthers, and all the other species hanging on by a thread the support they need to survive. We can stop the extinction crisis, but it’s going to take persistent activism and the power of the law — and we need you to join the fight and make it clear to our leaders that we will not accept any preventable extinctions.

Tell Biden to restore protections for wolves
During the last week of February, hunters in Wisconsin slaughtered 218 gray wolves in just three days. Now Wisconsin wants to do it again and hold another hunt this fall, slaughtering more wolves and furthering the decline of the population. Please join us in calling on the Biden administration to reverse the previous administration’s decision to needlessly endanger wolves across the country – and to prevent the slaughter of more wolves in Wisconsin.

Investigate the troubling payments that threaten the Florida panther
The 120 to 230 Florida panthers left in the world are hanging on by a thread as they face consistent habitat destruction and lack healthy amounts of genetic diversity. And due to unchecked suburban sprawl pushing more cars onto more roads in panther habitat, a panther is killed by motorists once every three weeks. Despite this, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — the agency charged with protecting endangered wildlife — is taking payments from landowners who are seeking permits to build massive developments and mines in habitat critical to the panther’s continued survival.

Demand a National Biodiversity Strategy
We are living through a mass extinction of humanity’s making. Just recently, the U.S. government declared 23 more species extinct, and in the coming decades, thousands more species could disappear forever due to climate change and habitat loss. This extinction crisis means fewer pollinators for agriculture, depleted fisheries, and disappearing old growth forests, which provide a long-term, low-cost source of clean air and water.
