Happy Birthday, America! Wishing all of you a fun and safe Fourth of July. I’m attaching an image of a wonderful gift a friend gave me last year.

Standing up to the King of England was the ultimate act of resistance. Celebrating July Fourth reminds us that our founders made tremendous sacrifices so we could have the democracy they envisioned. Now we have a responsibility to protect our democracy, and improve upon it in this time of significant change and opportunity.

Growing up, I spent many July Fourths in Valley Forge, PA, at Independence Hall where the Liberty Bell is proudly on display, and at other historic sites in Pennsylvania. So the Declaration of Independence is very important to me. Our founders stated:

Like many of you, I’ll be spending the holiday with family and friends. For me it will be in beautiful CA-8, talking to voters about why that language in the Declaration is more important now than ever, and why we have the opportunity to achieve our founder’s vision if we work together.
