We believe everyone deserves access to clean drinking water.
John,
At Food & Water Action, we believe everyone deserves access to locally managed, affordable, clean drinking water.
That’s why we were happy to see the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finally commit to taking long-overdue action to address PFAS water contamination and protect water quality and public health. But there’s still much more to do.
Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (known as PFAS) are toxic, lab-made chemicals that have posed major health risks to communities for decades. The EPA’s plan will finally set enforceable limits on PFOA and PFOS (the two most studied forms of PFAS) by 2023, and hold polluters accountable for their blatant water contamination with these two PFAS chemicals.
But to make sure everyone has clean, safe water, we need strong regulations, comprehensive limits on the full class of PFAS chemicals, and adequate funding to help struggling public water providers fully implement the critical new PFAS standards.
So we won’t rest until the nation’s drinking water is safe for everyone.
We’ll continue to fight to pass meaningful water safety and funding legislation; we’ll fight water privatization at the local, state and federal levels; we’ll fight in the courts against the corporate polluters who endanger our water and pollute our environment; and we’ll work with local communities to guarantee affordable water service for all. Will you make a gift today to help fight for clean and affordable water for everyone?
Food & Water Action and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Watch, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
