Friend – there’s been a major development from the Supreme Court on reproductive health: The court has expedited a hearing on Texas’ dangerous abortion ban. But in the meantime, they have allowed the ban to stay in place, and as Justice Sotomayor rightly pointed out, the extremist, right-wing law continues to put women in harm’s way.
In a matter of days, the fate of the near half-century-old precedent of Roe v. Wade – and the right of women to make their own personal, private healthcare decisions – will be decided by the Supreme Court. For the sake of reproductive justice for all, I must ask you to take action.
This isn’t just a case of judicial precedent, Friend. It’s about fundamental human rights – and whether or not our democratic institutions will take the right steps to protect them. If they don’t, and if Texas’ anti-women law stands, we could see a return to the dark days of our country when every single woman’s personal decision about when to have a child was controlled by the government: a return to when abortion care was driven underground, where women were harmed and even died.
That is the antithesis of everything America stands for – and right now, the world is watching, and our friends, family, and neighbors are hoping and praying that the Supreme Court of the United States of America makes the right decision.
