John,
This is horrifying. The Trump Administration is fast-tracking efforts to allow uranium mining around Grand Canyon National Park.
John, your voice is crucial. Take action now to protect the Grand Canyon today!
In 2012, after extensive public support, the Department of Interior put in place a 20-year ban on uranium mining for approximately one million acres of public land surrounding Grand Canyon National Park. Despite strong local and national backing for protecting this area, the Trump Administration is pushing to open up the landscape to line the pockets of private uranium mining companies.
This could be a disaster for our beloved public lands and one of America’s most iconic National Parks. But now we have an urgent opportunity to fight back in Congress. Representative Raul Grijalva, the House Natural Resources Committee Chair, from Arizona, recently introduced a bill that would permanently protect over one million acres around the Grand Canyon from uranium mining — and the bill is expected to be voted on this week in the House of Representatives.
It is essential that Trust for Public Land supporters like you take action today to protect the Grand Canyon before the bill comes up for a vote. Sign now and urge your Representative to support the Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act (H.R. 1373) today!
The Grand Canyon and its surroundings are a national treasure, attracting millions of visitors each year. Expanding uranium mining in the watershed surrounding Grand Canyon National Park could pollute water resources, destroy sacred indigenous sites, and irreparably damage wildlife habitat that needs to be permanently protected.
This cannot wait. Your Representative needs to hear from you now to protect the Grand Canyon from dangerous uranium mining.
We can’t let this opportunity to protect one of America’s most iconic National Parks pass us by — please act now to protect the Grand Canyon today, John.
Thank you,
Jordan Schreiber
