Last month, the most restrictive abortion ban since Roe v. Wade went into effect in Texas. Now, Republicans across the country have promised to push for similar bans in their own states.
Republicans have made it clear that they will do anything to undermine Roe v. Wade and attack reproductive rights. That’s why my Democratic colleagues and I voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, to protect reproductive rights.

As a doctor, I understand the importance of reproductive decisions being between a patient and their doctor — and have fought to maintain this right every day in Congress. The truth is that bans on abortions don’t stop abortions, but they do make them that much less safe.
The Women’s Health Protection Act would eliminate medically unnecessary restrictions, protect health care providers who provide abortions, and overall recognize women’s own bodily autonomy. We need this legislation passed to protect what has already been the law of the land for 50 years from this latest attack on reproductive rights by the GOP.
It’s time Republicans stop trying to tell others what they can and cannot do with their own bodies when their decisions don’t affect them at all.
