We knew that the fight for bold climate action would be fraught with challenges. And this week is a solemn reminder of the difficulties we face in our current political climate:
It’s difficult to read this headline and truly process the gravity of what’s at stake. Far too often, the media portrayal of the climate crisis feels divorced from its real world consequences.
But when it comes to reducing our emissions and slowing down the climate crisis, failure is not an option. The stakes are simply too high and we must keep fighting.
Unfortunately, we’re seeing how just one vote in Congress can put an entire generation at risk. But the power of one vote can go in the opposite direction as well.
If we can elect more and more Green New Deal champions to Congress in 2022, we can continue to shift the power in our favor. That’s why Alexandria launched Courage to Change: a leadership PAC that supports progressive candidates who refuse to bow to establishment and corporate pressure.
Let’s be clear. The climate crisis is bigger than political ideology. It’s a moral imperative for humanity and our planet’s future to reduce and eventually eliminate fossil fuel emissions.
There are many ways to do it, and we can’t afford to give up. While we fight for bold climate investments now, we also need more leaders in Congress for the long-term who are willing to stand up to Big Oil lobbyists and build the clean energy revolution we need.
Through Courage to Change, we’re able to support progressive challengers and bolster progressive leaders in Congress who embody the ideals of climate and environmental justice.
