Friend,
The billionaires laugh because they know the corporate media prefers to
fawn over them rather than hold them to account.
Already rich beyond belief, the wealthiest 745 people in the U.S. are
laughing because they are now collectively $5 trillion— trillion, with a
"T" — richer than they were when the pandemic hit.
It's easy to laugh when you're a billionaire, especially when the
corporate press treats you like a glorious success, as opposed to the
epitome of a broken social order.
But all these laughing billionaires are enough to make you furious.
Here at Common Dreams—a news organization built as an independent
alternative to the dominant media system that stands in service to
corporate power and individual wealth—our commitment is to the common
good of humanity, and we share your belief that a better world is
possible.
However, believing in that better world means recognizing that
collective action and solidarity are the best and perhaps only strengths
against the corporate forces aligned against our vision for a more
decent and sustainable society.
Today we ask you to support our nonprofit journalism because we are not
impressed by billionaires flying into space, their corporations
despoiling our health and our planet, or their vast fortunes safely
concealed in tax havens across the globe.
We are not laughing. We are hard at producing journalism for the common
good. And if you can—no matter how big or small—please support this
independent journalism today by donating to our critical Fall Campaign.
We cannot do it without you.
