If Mitch McConnell and the GOP continue their lockstep obstruction, the Senate must make an exception to the filibuster.
John,
Earlier this week, Republicans in the Senate blocked the Freedom to Vote Act -- legislation that is crucial to strengthening our democracy and protecting our right to vote.
Among other much-need measures, this bill would make Election Day a public holiday, it would dramatically simplify the voter registration process, and help eliminate partisan gerrymandering. It would also create more transparency with regard to political giving.
Republicans in Washington are making it clear that they have zero interest in saving our democracy. So if Mitch McConnell and the GOP continue their obstruction of this bill, I’m urging the Senate to make an exception to the filibuster to get it passed.
Extremists in GOP-run legislatures like Texas and Georgia continue to push restrictive voting laws stemming from Donald Trump's unfounded "voter fraud" conspiracies.
The only way we can stop these baseless attacks on voting rights is with action at the federal level.
