Spotlight: Ron Miller and Cordoba Corporation
City of Justice Awards Dinner
Thursday, December 2, 2021
at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills

6 PM PST Reception    7:30 PM PST Dinner
The future of Los Angeles is the future of the water that sustains it.

Three years ago, LAANE and our partners helped to pass the landmark Measure W, a $300 million annual program to fund projects that help capture and clean the estimated 100 billion gallons of stormwater and runoff previously wasted each year. At this year's City of Justice Awards Dinner, LAANE is proud to honor two of those incredible partners who are helping make a sustainable water future a reality: Ron Miller and Cordoba Corporation.

As head of the LA/OC Building Trades Council, Ron Miller represented 48 affiliate unions comprising 100,000 workers in 14 different construction trades. These workers are building our water future everyday, with projects like the $12 million El Dorado Regional Park in Long Beach, a nearly 14-acre constructed wetland which will capture and treat stormwater and runoff across nearly 10,000 acres.  Cordoba Corporation, a prominent high-road infrastructure engineering firm, has worked alongside our labor partners and overseen the development of union-built water infrastructure projects like the LA Green Infrastructure Project. Together, they are helping to create good jobs, thriving communities, and a healthy environment for generations to come.

Join us at the annual City of Justice Awards to hear more about the innovative work our honorees are doing!

HONORING
RON MILLER
Immediate Past Executive Secretary
Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council

Ron Miller served as Executive Secretary of the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council from 2012 to July 30, 2021. The Council represents 150,000 skilled construction workers in 14 Trades and 48 affiliated unions and district councils.

In his nine years as LA/OC BCTC head, Miller led the negotiations for billions of dollars’ worth of Project Labor Agreements with public and private entities, which guarantee that a skilled and trained workforce from Building Trades affiliated unions will be on the job. The list includes the most high-profile public and private projects of the last decade, with many agreements renewing into 2025 and beyond to cover work in the future.

A chief priority for the Building Trades is to drive economic equity, by passing on skills to the next generation through apprenticeship, with outreach to diverse communities to join the Trades. Under Miller’s leadership, the Council created the nonprofit Apprenticeship Readiness Fund, which coordinates more than 15 grassroots programs that facilitate local residents’ entry to apprenticeship and lifelong Trades careers.
