Nottingham Christmas events and attractions will go ahead
Christmas market in Nottingham
I?m really pleased that we have been able to come up with a high-quality programme of Christmas events and attractions dispersed around the city centre in conjunction with Mellors Group.
The new-look event follows advice from public health and the Safety Advisory Group for Events (SAGe) which preferred a dispersed offer using spaces across the city centre rather than all attractions being sited around Old Market Square. The number of market stalls has been scaled back, and spaces around them increased to improve circulation.
In planning for this event, we have been mindful of the issues at last year?s event and we acknowledge it?s important to maintain a balance of keeping people safe and urging caution but also allowing people to enjoy the seasonal festivities.
Some of the city?s larger events have not taken place in 2021 due to the scale and individual characteristics and nature of each event; each is assessed on its own merits. For the Christmas events we expect daily visitor numbers in line with other events that have gone ahead, spread across a long period, while people have multiple travel options and ways to enter and leave the main sites.

Nottingham?s newest and greenest car park to open on November 1st
Before and after Broadmarsh car park
It?s exciting to finally be ready to open the new Broad Marsh Car Park to drivers on Monday 1st November [ [link removed] ]. It is a key part of the rejuvenation of the city?s Southside which is underway and already making a dramatic difference to the look and feel of this part of the city centre.
I?m really pleased with all the green attributes this new facility can boast ? a huge array of solar panels which will power the whole building and the most charging points in one location for electric vehicle drivers.
I also think it looks fantastic and complements the new college nearby while being sympathetic to the heritage buildings on Carrington Street which have undergone some wonderful improvements of their own. I?m sure that as people return to the city in greater numbers they will be impressed with the new car park and the other improvements in the area. More here [ [link removed] ]

Go along to Forest Rec to grab your jab
Let's get vaccinated campaign graphic
I?m pleased to see that the Covid-19 vaccination centre has reopened this week after being made ready for the colder winter months. With cases of the virus still rising, it is clear that this vaccination centre still has an important role to play in our response to the pandemic.
We want to make it as easy as possible for people to go along to grab their jab. The Forest Rec centre is open every day, including weekends, from 8.30am to 7.30pm. There?s plenty of free parking, as well as good bus and tram links ? plus there are experienced staff around to help answer any questions people might have.
Please remember: it?s not too late to get vaccinated. Your jab is waiting for you? the Forest Rec site can help you whether it?s your first, second or booster jab. Anyone aged 16 or above can go along without an appointment (although, you can still book if you want to: www.nhs.uk/grab-a-jab [ [link removed] ]). Booster jabs are available to people over 50 and those who are clinically vulnerable ? and need to be taken at least six months after you had your second jab? so anyone who was jabbed before May will be eligible. Those eligible for a booster vaccination will be contacted by the NHS inviting them to book in the coming days and weeks. However, if a person is eligible and has not yet received an invitation, they can just walk into the Forest Rec vaccination centre.
It?s really important to have both doses of the vaccine as well as the booster, if you are eligible, as this remains the best defence we have against the virus. We want everyone to benefit from the protection the vaccine offers. If you have more questions, please visit the local NHS website: www.nottsccg.nhs.uk/covid-19/covid-9-vaccinations [ [link removed] ].

Clifton Bridge fully reopens tomorrow
Clifton bridge
National Highways confirmed this week that all lane restrictions will be lifted on Clifton Bridge from 6am tomorrow, which I?m sure will have been very welcome news for the many people who use that route.
It will bring to an end more than 18 months of disruption on one of the busiest roads in the city, which has inevitably caused frustration for motorists and bus passengers, so we?re pleased National Highways has taken the opportunity to carry out extra maintenance works that should mean we can avoid any significant disruption here for many years to come.
Please allow more time for your journey if you?re travelling that way this weekend as drivers familiarise themselves with the layout of the road.
