European Parliament Votes to Condemn Texas Abortion Ban

Joining international condemnation of Texas’s extreme abortion ban, earlier this month the European Parliament adopted an urgency resolution condemning the law, S.B. 8. The resolution widely denounces the Texas law, claiming that it “de facto amounts to a total ban on abortion,” particularly due to its lack of exception in cases of “rape, incest, or fetal health conditions incompatible with sustained life after birth.”

It is a strong statement regarding human rights protections for abortion access, and we applaud the European Parliament for taking action to condemn this extreme ban as we continue litigating to strike it down.

Abortion in India: Report Reveals Widespread Legal Barriers

Today, unsafe abortions account for 8-10% of maternal deaths in India—due in part to widespread legal barriers to safe abortion access in the region.

A recent fact-finding report by the Center and our partners, titled Legal Barriers to Accessing Safe Abortions in India: A Fact-Finding Study, outlines ways to improve access to safe abortion care by utilizing legal, public health, and public education tools.

Center Hosts Session on the Need to Decriminalize Abortion in Asia

At the 10th annual Asia Pro Bono Conference & Access to Justice Exchange, the Center hosted a session to highlight the need for the decriminalization of abortion in Asia. The event stressed that criminal bans on abortion violate the fundamental rights of women and girls, including their rights to life, health, dignity, and privacy.
