There has been a lot of talk in recent years about replacing Canada’s coal-fired power plants with wind and solar.

But how much would it cost? And what would the measurable benefits be? Today's new Fraser Institute study answers those questions.

It turns out that replacing Canada’s coal-fired power plants with wind and solar would cost between $16.8 and $33.7 billion... annually.

This move would reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions by 7.2%, which would fall well short of the federal government’s target of 40-45% below 2005 emissions levels by 2030.
