Dear John
Today (21 Oct) marks the 2nd Anniversary of the tragic day when Westminster forced abortion on Northern Ireland.
It really breaks my heart to think that since then, more than 1556 innocent little babies have been brutally killed by abortion. To mark this anniversary, I have organised a LIFE CHAIN event in Belfast. I’m really hoping and praying that hundreds of pro-lifers will join me in circling Belfast City Hall with our new pro-life signs that say "Every Child deserves a BIRTH day"
I don’t think I will ever understand how politicians stood idly by on 21st October 2019 and let the anti-life Westminster Government force the most barbaric and cruel abortion regimes in the world, on this pro-life nation. A law that goes far beyond the Britain’s 1967 Abortion Act or the abortion legislation in the Republic of Ireland. Section 9 of Westminster’s NI (Executive Formation) Act legalised the killing of little baby boys and girls right up to the moment of birth.
Holocaust Survivor Elie Wiesel once said, "To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time."
I want to assure you John that Precious Life will never forget, never rest, and never give up until every unborn baby is protected and their personhood restored in law, policy and practice in Northern Ireland.
Because of your continued support, Precious Life is still the largest and most active pro-life group in Ireland. Every day, through our many powerful street and online outreaches, we reach thousands of people with the truth about abortion.
Every day, we are changing hearts and minds.
Every day, we are saving babies lives.
Every day, we are transforming and empowering a new generation that will defend future children and make abortion not only illegal but unthinkable.
The battle will continue. As scripture says, "We must never get tired of doing good because if we don't give up the struggle we shall get our harvest at the proper time.” (Gal. 6:9)
Knowing that you are with me strengthens my resolve to never get tired and never give up in this greatest human rights battle of our time.
Our weekly Street Outreach continues in Belfast every Saturday. Throughout this year we have travelled to Armagh, Derry, Newry and other towns to collect signatures from the public for our REPEAL SECTION 9 Campaign and distribute the vital pro-life information that your generous support has enabled us to produce.
Sadly, the pro-abortionists are not content with the shedding of innocent blood, and they are now turning their attack on us to try and stop us from publicly witnessing and praying. Just last week in the Stormont Assembly, we had to listen to the blatant lies and hatred spewed out about us from anti-life MLAs. The only reason they want to stop our peaceful pro-life witness outside the abortion centres in Northern Ireland is because they know how effective our prayer and action is at saving many babies.
The SDLP, Sinn Féin, UUP, Alliance Party, Green Party and PeopleBeforeProfit all voted in support of criminalising every pro-lifer who bravely stands outside the baby killing centres. Each week our dedicated volunteers simply stand silently praying as we offer help and life-affirming alternatives to abortion-vulnerable women. But if the ‘Abortion Zones’ Bill is passed in the Assembly, pro-life people - from teenagers to pensioners - women and men - will be criminalised and face hefty fines of up to £2500.
We cannot let this happen.
If we don’t speak up for the little ones, then who will?
Let me assure you that Precious Life’s Pro-Life Witness outside the abortion centres will continue. Our Street Outreach in towns and cities across the province will continue. Our Repeal Section 9 Campaign will continue until personhood and full legal protection is restored to every unborn child in Northern Ireland.
If you are able, please join me on Saturday 23rd October at our LIFE CHAIN and show the anti-life politicians in the Assembly and in Westminster, that abortion is still NOT IN OUR NAME and that we will always stand up for life and against the killing of our unborn babies. If you are unable to be physically present at our Life Chain on Saturday, please unite with us in prayer wherever you are.
Please continue to pray for me and be assured of my daily prayers for you and your loved ones.
Yours, for the least of God’s little ones,
Bernadette Smyth
