So far in the 2022 election cycle, Texas candidates have received nearly $7 million in loans to their campaigns. The majority of that money went to a single candidate running for Texas governor.

Lending is an attractive option for some would-be political supporters. The lender may forgive the loan if a candidate loses (making it function as an ad-hoc donation) or fully recoup the investment from the burgeoning campaign account of an elected office holder (should the candidate win). Read the full article on loans here.
