Hi ,
Let’s celebrate journalism and its undeniable value to our democracy.
Journalism is vital to our everyday lives. From vaccine rollouts to Delta variants, social media bans to outages, spa shootings to the sentencing of Derek Chauvin, and from the insurrection at the United States Capitol to the withdrawal from Afghanistan — journalists in newsrooms national and local have been there to cover the most important stories of our time and bring information, context and understanding to the complexities of the modern world.
Let’s celebrate the ways the Poynter Institute supports that journalism.
As a friend of Poynter, you’ve witnessed our efforts up close. You’ve tracked the media industry's ups and downs in our popular morning newsletter, The Poynter Report. You relied on PolitiFact to rate claims made by public officials and pundits, and to offer in-depth reporting and context on volatile issues. Many of you went with us behind the scenes in the White House press room with NBC News’ Peter Alexander. You learned how to tell fact from fiction online through a MediaWise course. You cheered with us when a signatory to Poynter’s International Fact-Checking Network’s code of principles won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. And thousands of you have elevated your work as journalists, educators and students through Poynter training this year.
All terrific reasons to celebrate.

We’re toasting the indisputable value of the free press during our online Celebration of Journalism gala the evening of Nov. 10.
Tune in to our largest fundraising event of the year from wherever you are ([link removed]) for special appearances by our friends across the industry, powerful storytelling and an exclusive interview with Lesley Stahl — award-winning broadcast journalist, “60 Minutes” correspondent for CBS News and recipient of the 2021 Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism.

Proceeds from the program will advance our mission to elevate the craft and importance of journalism for generations to come.
If Poynter’s teaching, reporting or advocacy for fact-based expression has helped you improve your ability to create or consume the news, please consider a sponsorship ([link removed]) or VIP-level ticket, ([link removed]) which includes a private online reception with our guest of honor. Free tickets ([link removed]) are also available so everyone can enjoy the evening. We’d appreciate it if you would forward this email to your friends and family who may be interested.
