Friend,

OAN, the One America News Network, might be the most dangerous pro-Trump
news source we've ever seen.

OAN regularly pushes Trump's phony claims of election fraud and
dangerous conspiracy theories about COVID-19. Its hosts and contributors
include literal neo-Nazis, and they've used their airwaves to host
pro-Trump fundraisers and pump loads of misinformation into millions of
homes nationwide.

Last week, we learned that OAN was actively cultivated by and owes its
ongoing existence to AT&T, the parent company of DirectTV.

AT&T doesn't care about facts or journalism. Its only interest is in
money and political power. AT&T saw a chance to increase its profits and
spread the noxious ideologies that serve its bottom line. OAN is the
result.

But while OAN may be an extreme example of how corporate greed fuels
right-wing media, it's really only the most recent. The truth is that
the corporate media has always put the profits of its owners and
industry allies ahead of the public interest and common good.

That's why Common Dreams exists, to counter the malignant influence of
the corporate media with independent, reader-funded journalism that is
beholden to people, not profits.

We report the news that the corporate media won't. But we can't do that
without support from our readers, and that's never been more challenging
than it is today. Will you make a donation to our Fall Campaign and help
fight back against OAN and the corporate media's powerful propaganda
machine?
