John, we need all hands on deck to transform justice in Texas right now!!!
I recently watched a video of young black councilman La’Shadion Shemwell who fought hard to be elected to one of the most conservative City Councils in the region. After the murder of Atatiana Jefferson, he declared a Black State of Emergency in Texas. He’s right!
One clear action step you can take right now is to support and fight for bold candidates for district attorney in Texas. Real Justice has already endorsed Audia Jones in Houston and José Garza in Austin, but they need your help.
District attorneys are some of the most powerful elected officials who can turn the tide on systemic racism and oppression in the justice system. They are some of the only checks on police power.
Texas is ground zero for some of the greatest challenges to justice reform – mass incarceration, death sentences, and police accountability when they murder innocent Black people. But Texas can also be ground zero for change.
Listen. I believe in Audia and José. They are bold reformers who will not bend to the will of shady police groups. They know what it will take to build a new system based on restorative justice. But they need your support.
