Dear John,
I am writing to let you know that after 35 years in public service, I have made the difficult decision not to seek re-election as Attorney General.
My work on behalf of all Marylanders has been the most rewarding, fulfilling and, I believe, productive experience of my professional life. I treasure the opportunity I've had to work with the talented and dedicated people that make up the Office of the Attorney General and realize that this experience has brought to life what Margaret Mead said so succinctly: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
"During my tenure, the OAG has worked tirelessly and accomplished much. While the list is much too lengthy to cover here, some of our most significant work includes the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars for Maryland consumers and the State; the indictment and prosecution of dangerous gang members, drug dealers, human traffickers, and pill mill operators; and efforts to protect our land, water, and air from polluters
We issued first-in-the-nation guidance prohibiting discriminatory profiling by law enforcement. We led efforts to reform Maryland's cash-bail system that unfairly imprisoned people for being poor and to halt the state practice of suspending drivers' licenses for failure to pay fines for minor traffic offenses. We sued nursing homes that were abusing elderly and vulnerable adults. We successfully defended the Maryland Firearm Safety Act.
And the office fought back against many of the worst illegal acts of the Trump Administration.
I am proud of these accomplishments and through the remainder of my term as Attorney General, I intend to make the most of every single moment. I will continue to work to provide the best possible legal advice to protect Marylanders, to improve their lives and to fight for justice.
Thanks to each and every one of you for your friendship and support over the years. I appreciate it more than I can ever express.
By Authority: Citizens for Brian Frosh; Jerry Gross, Treasurer.
