A Request for Support from ATU 689
The longer the picket line, the shorter the strike! [link removed] ATU Local 689 Metrobus workers employed by Transdev at WMATA's Cinder Bed Road garage in Lorton, VA, launched an unfair labor practice strike on Thursday, October 24th.
Workers are demanding an end to company stalling at the bargaining table, to intimidation and surveillance, and to WMATA's privatization scheme that creates a two-tier workforce with lower wages and almost non-existent benefits.
Here are the best ways you can show solidarity and help the strikers win and get back to work:
1. Hold WMATA Accountable: WMATA created this crisis when it decided to privatize the first Metrobus garage in the system's history and hand the reins over to Transdev, a multinational contractor notorious for paying low wages, offering few benefits, and cutting corners on service for riders. WMATA is now trying to pretend they have no involvement with the garage. We can't let them avoid accountability.
