Friends, I’m introducing legislation to create a Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia — an office that will help the U.S. lead the fight against anti-Muslim hate and bias here and around the world.
At a time when Islamophobic incidents are on the rise, it couldn’t be more important to take action to protect human rights and religious freedom everywhere.
Will you join me in calling on Congress to pass my legislation establishing a Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia? Add your name below:
In New Jersey, a teacher is under investigation for reportedly pulling a young girl’s hijab off her head in class. This kind of violation is all too familiar to me, as a refugee whose classmates bullied me by putting chewing gum in my hijab.
That’s just one example of the type of Islamophobic trauma that Muslim people have experienced in our country this year, including hate crimes, harassment, school bullying, discrimination, and hate speech.
We cannot let hatred and division win. We need to establish a special envoy in the State Department to make sure the United States has the resources needed to protect human rights and religious and cultural freedom around the globe.
Please, add your name to tell Congress to vote for my legislation establishing a Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia:
Thanks for speaking out in this crucial moment.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
