John,

I was reading about the heartwarming ways Americans are welcoming Afghan refugees, and I immediately thought of you.

During these last few months, IRC team members have been assisting Afghan refugees in the U.S. And with you by our side, as a member of the IRC family, we’ve been able to give families who are new to the U.S. a chance to settle into their new communities and get back on their feet. You are a part of this amazing story of welcome.

I hope it brightens your day, John, to read about how Americans like you, from all walks of life, are coming together in support of Afghan families: [link removed]

I especially loved reading about five-year-old cousins Timber and Rahm, who set up a lemonade stand in their Colorado neighborhood to raise money for the IRC. With the help of their family and friends, they raised $750 to support their local IRC office in Denver, where we are helping Afghan refugees resettle.

Rahm's mother shared with us these inspiring words: "If everyone takes small steps to do something then maybe it will make a difference."

I also was moved by the story of Muska Haseeb, a 25-year-old Afghan refugee (in the photo above, on the far left) who resettled with her family in Phoenix when she was 12 years old. Watching the crisis in Afghanistan unfold has been painful, but Muska understands the hope that many Afghans are clinging to. She has been speaking out and volunteering to help welcome refugee families like hers.

In Afghanistan, it was hard for Muska to envision a future. Now, she is an entrepreneur and a pre-med student at the University of Texas.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to learn more about how Muska and other Americans, like you, are welcoming Afghan refugees, and how your support is making an invaluable difference.

Thank you so much for all you do for the refugee families in the U.S. and worldwide.

— Andrea, IRC
