For too long, working class people have had to choose between putting food on the table or meeting their basic needs for health and happiness, which includes spending time with their family and taking time off if they are struggling with their health. In the world’s richest nation, it’s only right that no one has to choose.
When I was a little girl, my mother first worked as a day care administrator before being elected to the New York City Council, and my father worked as an engineer and architect. I myself have worked as a child-care specialist, so I know first-hand how important it is for family and childhood development in order to have a paid family leave program in place.
Thank you for sharing your stories. They mean the world to me, and it’s why I do this work.
