John —
Since 1973, at least 185 people across the country have been wrongly sentenced to death and exonerated. But for some, like Carlos DeLuna, the subject of the new Netflix documentary The Phantom, evidence of innocence emerged too late and a man was unjustly executed. The film tells Carlos’ story and paints a portrait of a grave injustice that can’t be undone.
At his trial, Carlos DeLuna (left) maintained that Carlos Hernandez (right) had committed the murder, but the prosecution and courts asserted that Mr. Hernandez was a “phantom” person.
John, that’s why we’re reaching out to you. Executing innocent people is irreversible. Tomorrow is our deadline to reach our goal of 100,000 signatures urging President Biden to commute the federal death row sentences. Join us by adding your name to urge the Biden administration to commute the federal death row. And then, share it on Twitter.
Virginia recently ended the death penalty to ensure that no innocent people are executed in the state. You can help lead the way by adding your name to urge the Biden administration to commute the sentences of people incarcerated on federal death row.
We’re so glad to have you in this fight with us.
Thank you for your support,
— The Innocence Project Team
