John,
Debate was just blocked on the Freedom to Vote Act, the bill that Sen. Joe Manchin has been championing on Capitol Hill.
Senate Republicans know that Manchin has worked across the aisle for weeks to try and gain bipartisan support for this compromise legislation. Even still, they decided to filibuster, and close off even the possibility of a conversation.
This brazen move comes at a time when our democracy is under tremendous stress, including by state legislatures passing bills that restrict voting access and place election administration under greater partisan control.
We need the common sense reforms that this bill would provide. And that’s why we aren’t giving up. We must work harder than ever before to get the Freedom to Vote Act across the finish line. Republicans must bring their ideas to the table. Filibustering is not acceptable.
The American public has been demanding the measures in this bill — like banning partisan gerrymandering, addressing the flood of undisclosed “dark money” in our elections, ensuring voters’ access to the ballot box, and strengthening our elections with more funding for state and local election officials.
You’ve helped us get this close. We need you to act again. Please call your senators and tell them to do whatever it takes to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.
The stakes are high. Inaction is not an option. Our democracy is on the line, and they need to hear all of our voices.
Call your senators NOW at (202) 224-3121 and tell them why they must pass the Freedom to Vote Act!
If you don’t know who your senators are, click here to find out, and then call them at the phone number provided.
Tell your senators:
The Senate’s refusal to even consider the Freedom to Vote Act is outrageous. We need to protect our elections, ensure voters’ access to the ballot box, and strengthen our democracy. This is a bill that both parties can, and should, support. The Senate must do whatever it takes to pass this critical bill.
This is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. It’s an American issue. I urge you to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.
Issue One will never let up. We’re going to continue to rally Democrats, independents, and Republicans to fight for reforms to fix our broken political system.
Thanks for all you do,
Nick Penniman Founder and CEO, Issue One
