John, I’m tired.
Last January, we made history when Democrats took back control of the White House and Congress — a mandate from the American people showing just how badly we need change from the status quo.
Yet, due to the archaic rules of the Senate, one single Senator can hold up the Build Back Better Act, a popular piece of legislation that would benefit working people of the country.
Here’s why passing this act is so important:
— Climate Change:
Creating a just country involves fighting for climate justice, John. Right now in the Bronx, 20% of children have asthma — nearly 12% higher than the national average — due in no small part to the decades of pollution in our community.
The Build Back Better Act will incentivize prioritizing green energy solutions. Joe Manchin is standing in the way.
— Two Years of Free Community College:
The burden of student debt is particularly acute in the Bronx, which holds the highest rate of loans in collections of all five boroughs.
The Build Back Better Act will provide two years of free community college for everyone. Joe Manchin is standing in the way.
— Cutting Prescription Drug Prices
Nearly 3.7 million residents are enrolled in Medicare in New York. Right now, Medicare is not allowed to negotiate lower drug prices.
The Build Back Better Act will make prescription drugs affordable. Joe Manchin is standing in the way.
This is our FDR moment, and frankly I don’t understand why some of my colleagues refuse to step up for the people of our country.
I’ll never leave the residents of New York’s fifteenth district behind for the sake of “compromise” with those who refuse to fight for us.
I hope you’re with me for the long haul, John.
Because I need to ask: If you’re ready to fight for the type of transformative change our nation needs, will you become a member of the grassroots donor team we need to do it?
