[1]Alessandra Biaggi - Democrat for State Senate

Friends —

I was shocked and horrified to see Jay Jacobs’ recent comments on India
Walton, the Democratic nominee for mayor of Buffalo:

Comparing India — a Black woman who rightfully won the primary because of
her promise to uplift working families — to the former grand wizard of the
KKK is disgusting and racist. And it shows a calculated effort by top
Democrats in our state to prevent progressives from gaining power.

This kind of resistance from our own party means that India really needs
our help to win her upcoming election. Please, if you’re able:

India is a nurse, Buffalo native, and progressive champion who defeated
centrist incumbent Byron Brown in the Democratic primary this past June.
But now, Republicans and establishment Democrats are pouring millions into
defeating her via a write-in campaign supporting Brown, the very incumbent
she defeated.

Now, I understand firsthand what India is up against.

In 2018, I ran for state senate against Democratic incumbent Jeff Klein,
the leader of the Independent Democratic Caucus (IDC). The IDC was a group
of fake Democrats who caucused with Republicans to prevent progressives
from passing any kind of significant legislation.

But I still faced an uphill battle to win this seat, because Klein had the
backing of major state Democrats including then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, as
well as tons of dark money from real estate developers and other special
interest groups.

My 2018 victory shows that it’s possible to challenge the status quo and
win — but it is certainly not easy. And that’s why India needs our help
right now.

India needs our help to fight back against attacks from members of our own
party, so your support is greatly appreciated.

I am proud to support progressives like India who are truly committed to
making change in our state. Thank you for joining me.

All my best,
Alessandra
