Dear Friend,
On October 23 and 24, the Young Center will host a virtual national Child Advocate training to recruit our next cohort of volunteers from across the country. We are looking for bilingual volunteers who can meet each week (virtually or in person) with children who are in deportation proceedings. Volunteers who complete the process will accompany children throughout their cases, listen to their stories, and help us fight for their best interests. We have a particular need for volunteers fluent in Nahuatl, Bajo/Alto, Quiché, Mam, Q’qechi’/ Kekchi, Chuj, Ixil, Popti, Q’anjob’al, Zapoteco, Mixteco and K'iche', Hindi, Punjabi, Pashtu, Farsi/Dari, and Spanish.
All volunteers must complete and submit our volunteer interest form. Interested volunteers must be at least 21 years old, pass a background check and a child abuse and neglect check, and be based in one of the Young Center’s eight locations: Chicago, Houston, San Antonio, Harlingen, Phoenix, Los Angeles, New York, or the Washington, D.C. metro area (MD, VA).
Volunteering as a Child Advocate is a deeply engaged and meaningful experience. Click here to read a reflection from one of our volunteers on what serving immigrant children through the Young Center has meant to her.
