For the past few weeks, the crisis in Turkey has continued to unfold after Trump’s phone call with President Erdogan.
Now, we know that Erdogan has expressed that he wants nuclear weapons and that he “cannot accept” the restrictions put in place by the West to stop that from happening. And after Trump couldn’t do anything to stop him from forcing the Kurds out of northeastern Syria, we’re worried that the U.S. won’t have the leverage to prevent the Turks from building their own nuclear weapons.
Turkey is now in open confrontation with NATO allies, and as you might have heard, Trump publicly revealed that the U.S. currently has about 50 nuclear weapons stored at a Turkish airbase. With our relationship with Turkey continuing to dwindle down, there’s a serious risk of Turkey seizing access to our Cold War-era nukes. That’s why we wanted to check in with you:
