This is huge, John.
One of Europe's biggest oil giants, TotalEnergies, has been exposed. They knew that burning fossil fuels was causing climate change since the 1970s. They lied about it. They funded climate doubt and denial, and made profit while stealing our time and our future.
But here's the thing: Total's fossil fuel business depends on money they get from banks.
That is why we are mobilizing thousands of climate activists around the world to demand that commercial banks who finance Total and its projects stop immediately.
We have plans for a massive movement to take down this corrupt corporation. But before I explain in more detail, if you can rush a $3.50 contribution to help make this happen, your support — especially today — would go a very long way.
John, Total's business depends on access to cheap finance from private banks across the world. These are the same banks that people like you and me have accounts with.
And the good news is that private banks are vulnerable to customer pressure. The risk of reputational damage, and damage to their business, can push commercial banks to withdraw from fossil fuel projects — and it has before.
Your support today will help put HUGE pressure on the banks and major financiers of Total. If enough people speak up and call out the banks' involvement with Total's toxic business, we can create a reputational risk too big to ignore, and force them to withdraw from supporting Total and their projects.
John, as a strong supporter of our climate movement, I'm really hoping I can count on you today. We can't do it alone. So I need to ask:
I really cannot thank you enough for your engagement in this campaign. It is because of supporters like you that I feel more and more optimistic every day about the fight to take down Total and the rest of the fossil fuel industry. Thank you again, and stay tuned for more on the TotalKnew campaign soon.
Onwards,
