Good afternoon friend,

It’s all go ahead of the Second Reading of Baroness Meacher’s Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Lords this Friday 22nd October.

In just two days we’ll gather outside Parliament to show members of the House of Lords, the media, and the public that we say Yes to Dignity. Hundreds of supporters have already signed up. Will you join them?

When: From 8:30am - if you can, please arrive by 9 as we want to have a strong presence as Peers enter the House of Lords
Where: George V Statue, Old Palace Yard, Westminster,  SW1P 3JY

We’ll be joined by Dignity in Dying’s Chair Baroness Meacher for a short speech in the morning, followed by appearances from neurosurgeon and author Henry Marsh CBE, former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey, and Dignity in Dying Chief Executive Sarah Wootton.

Thanks to your generosity in the lead up we’ve made amazing progress. Thousands of letters have been sent to peers. The media have taken up our cause, publishing features, editorials and letters in support of the Bill.

Some of our supporters will feel uncomfortable about attending the demonstration at the moment and we fully understand that feeling. For those who do attend, we will be taking measures to ensure the demonstration is as safe as possible in terms of public health.

But this demonstration is important. Dying people cannot wait for law change and we need to support this new legislation in every way we can. This includes giving supporters of assisted dying the choice to make their voices heard in person, safely and peacefully.

If you attend it is likely that your image will appear in photography, video and press coverage of the demonstration. Please make sure you’re comfortable with this before attending as we cannot guarantee that you will be able to opt out of this coverage.

If you want to follow the debate at home, you can watch it online at: https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/fd4f9ba1-c001-4d1f-a30d-52f3ef9ee38c

You will also be able to watch the debate live on BBC Parliament from 3pm.

If you’re able to join us on Friday, I look forward to seeing you there.

All the best,

Sadie Kempner

Dignity in Dying

P.S. I know that for a range of reasons many of our supporters won’t be able to join us on Friday. If this is you I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything else that you’ve done to get us to this point - there would be no Assisted Dying Bill without your efforts!

P.P.S. If you've already registered or let us know that you're coming by post, feel free to disregard this message.
