We say it often: PEAK is member-driven and member-led, and we are lucky to have the best member volunteers leading our chapters, affinity groups, and communities of practice—not to mention participating in our pilot mentoring program! During our 2021 Leadership Summit, we had the honor to bring together 130 of these leaders to invest in their leadership development and create a supportive, cohesive network dedicated to emergent learning within our volunteer community. We were joined by Aiko Bethea, past PEAK board member and founder of RARE coaching, who inspired volunteers to live BIG—set boundaries, live with integrity, and lead with generosity—and by Marissa Lifshen Steinberger, founder of One Eleven Leadership, who shared effective practices to promote self-care while being a change agent.

We'd like to extend special thanks to our volunteer planning team members: Fernanda  Kuchkarian, Jennifer Katell, Judith Hill, Kim Canfield, Kristopher  LeCorgne, and Traci Johnson, as well as to PEAK board members Kerri Hurley, Josh Abel, and Janet Disla, all of whom joined us at this event.

** Designing for Disability Inclusion with PEAK SoCal
------------------------------------------------------------

Back in August, PEAK Southern California Communications Chair Richelle Pittella led the webinar Intro to Data Visualization and Accessibility ([link removed]) . Pittella, who is also the grants training and process manager at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, shared how tools already at your disposal can be used to maximize the impact of data in reporting, presentations, and dashboards.

The latest news about our sector partnerships and how PEAK is advocating for more equitable grantmaking practices at conferences, convenings, and community conversations.

PEAK President and CEO Satonya Fair has been selected by The Center on Community Philanthropy at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service along with eight fellow nonprofit leaders to participate in the inaugural class of itsracial healing certification program ([link removed]) . The program is the first of its kind designed to provide specialized training, education, and unique experiences that promote skills development and competencies in the targeted area of racial healing.

Satonya took part in the second annual For the Love of Community (FLOC) Virtual Summit, which was created by Kathryn Addo, who is senior director, community relations at JD Financial Group, to support African American nonprofit leaders. The2021 Summit ([link removed]) provided practical strategies to help nonprofits achieve their mission and become financially sustainable, with session insights ranging from encouraging nonprofits to have current profiles on Candid's GuideStar database to sharing how philanthropy is reshaping during the pandemic.

Satonya joined the Orange County Grantmakers Community Relations Council for a peer group session about advocating up. The goal was to learn and share communication tips for lifting up community voice in the Community Relations (CR) landscape. Satonya drew on her CR experience to help lead the group toward ideas and solutions for advancing equity and ensuring that nonprofit voice is "in the room" with business leadership.

As a Council on Foundations Career Pathways ([link removed]) alum, Satonya was able to pay it forward by participating in the organization’s annual HR Retreat, joining a panel on evolving organizational culture as we all straddle hybrid work environments alongside the Council’s Tavie Clay and Kresge Foundation’s Jennifer Jaramillo.

For the closing plenary of Philanthropy Northwest’s annual conference, Satonya joined Carmen Rojas of the Marguerite Casey Foundation, D'Artagnan Caliman of Meyer Memorial Trust, La quen náay Liz Medicine Crow of First Alaskans Institute, and Christine Reeves Strigara of The Sapelo Foundation; and also presented a workshop on demographic data.

At Blackbaud’s #bbcon user conference, Satonya joined the panel, Foundations Forward: How Sustainable and Strategic Giving Helps Us All.

Membership Director Sara Sanders is volunteering on the United Philanthropy Forum’s 2022 Annual Conference Planning Committee, supporting the largest annual gathering of philanthropy-supporting organizations. The 2021 program will focus on advancing racial equity, how philanthropy can address climate change, and diversity, inclusion, and power building in philanthropy.
