Friends and Neighbors,
Last Thursday, 10,000 UAW union members began their strike against John Deere demanding higher wages, improved benefits, and an end to their two-tier pension system.
And I stand in complete solidarity with these hard-working Americans.
Our nation’s labor laws are weak, outdated, and ineffective. They protect Wall Street at the expense of Main Street. For far too long, major corporations like John Deere have made billions in profits off of working people. It is time they treat their employees fairly.
We must fight to pass legislation like the PRO Act, which will significantly strengthen the ability of workers to form unions and engage in collective negotiations for things like better working conditions and fair wages.
We must recognize that empowering our workers goes beyond employee rights in the workplace and that labor unions have historically been the avenue to help move the poor and working poor into the middle class.
We must stand with labor and elevate the voices of our brothers and sisters if we are going to see the sweeping changes that are necessary to win workers’ rights.
This is why I am asking you to join me today in support of the UAW by making a direct contribution to their strike fund. Your gift will help cover the costs of food and supplies for the workers on the John Deere picket line. Can I count on you to take action?
