In a scene out of the Republican Party’s worst nightmare, Donald Trump issued a statement taking his Big Lie about the election to the next level:
“If we don’t solve the Presidential Election Fraud of 2020, Republicans will not be voting in ‘22 or ‘24. It is the single most important thing for Republicans to do.”
Trump already provoked an attack on our Capitol by pushing his lies that the election was stolen that cost police their lives. Now he’s directly encouraging a boycott of the next election.
While many Republicans are trying to distance themselves from Trump and his dangerous conspiracy theories, Jim Jordan remains a central name in his Big Lie. He repeatedly pushed the talking point that the election was stolen both before and after election day, and led the charge of 147 Congressional Republicans in voting to overturn the election results. He'll always stand by Trump, even if that means sacrificing our democracy.
Unlike Trump and Jordan, I believe our democracy is stronger when everyone has the opportunity to make their voice heard. If you have to suppress people’s votes to win, you shouldn’t be in office.
