Today, the U.S. Senate is taking up a vote to advance the Freedom to Vote Act, legislation that is crucial to strengthening our democracy and better protecting our right to vote. Add your name to support it here → [link removed]

This bill would make Election Day a federal holiday, establish same-day voter registration in every state, create standards for mail-in voting, and ban partisan gerrymandering.

And it couldn’t come a moment too soon. Right now, Republicans across the country — including right here in Montana — are continuing to push the Big Lie around the 2020 election results, which we know fueled the violent insurrection against the U.S. Capitol last January.

Earlier this spring, Montana’s Republican-controlled legislature passed a voting restrictions bill that bans ballot collection measures and makes it harder for students, the elderly, folks with disabilities, and Native Americans to vote — a bill that Laurie strongly opposed.

Montana’s GOP are now claiming that “voter fraud” and “election insecurity” are to blame for Donald Trump losing the 2020 presidential election. Just last week, they requested a special panel to investigate it.

We need action at the federal level to stop these baseless conspiracy theories and attacks on voting rights, and to defend our democracy.
