Dear John,
From gray wolves to sea turtles to the iconic bald eagle, endangered wildlife is at risk of being wiped out. A devastating UN report identified 1 million plant and animal species on the brink of extinction.
But Trump doesn’t care. His administration is committed to the Trump Extinction Plan -- rolling back bedrock Endangered Species Act protections for our environment and wildlife every chance they get.
Recently, Congress introduced critical legislation to repeal Trump’s Extinction Plan -- “The PAW and FIN Conservation Act.” This is the legislation we need to protect our wildlife. We need your help to pressure your legislators to advance this bill.
Protect endangered wildlife: Tell Congress to pass the PAW and FIN Conservation Act!
Trump’s Administration proposed changes that would weaken the Endangered Species Act in order to clear the way for Big Oil and Gas projects. They are trying to make it easier to remove vulnerable species from the list and harder to protect more species from climate change.
The new rules would also weigh the worth of an entire species against corporate profit. Rather than act on the science alone, it would include the “costs” to corporations of not logging, mining, and drilling in critical habitats when deciding whether or not to protect species.
These changes would make it easier to advance fossil fuel projects where endangered species live -- like the Keystone XL pipeline, which threatens the whooping crane. Thanks to consistent pressure from engaged environmentalists like you, John, some legislators are fighting back against Trump’s corporate giveaways.
The PAW and FIN Conservation Act would reverse nearly all of the Trump Administration’s changes to the Endangered Species Act. But your members of Congress need to know you support these environmental protections or they won’t co-sponsor the bill. Can we count on your support?
Help protect polar bears, bumblebees, and orcas: Tell Congress to fight Trump’s attacks on the Endangered Species Act!
For decades, the Endangered Species Act has been a critical tool in the fight to protect endangered wildlife from extinction at the hands of Big Polluters. Since it was first passed in 1973, the Endangered Species Act has prevented the extinction of 291 species -- a 99% success rate. It’s one of the most effective environmental laws on the books.
Without Endangered Species Act protections, iconic species like polar bears, Rusty Patched Bumblebees, and Southern Resident Orcas could all go extinct. And losing them would have impacts far beyond individual species. For instance, if we don’t stop the decline of insects, scientists warn that we will face a complete “collapse of nature’s ecosystems.”
With your help we’ve blocked Trump’s assault on endangered species -- but we’ve been playing defense. Now, we have a chance to go on the offensive and undue all the damage Trump has done to the Endangered Species Act. By passing the PAW and FIN Conservation Act, we can ensure endangered wildlife have the protections and support they need to survive and thrive. But Congress will only act if they feel pressure from constituents like you and me.
Tell Congress to pass the PAW and FIN Conservation Act: Don’t let Trump gut critical, endangered species protections!
Standing with you,
