John -- By the time you finish reading this email, 20 women will have experienced a form of domestic violence.

Millions of women have experienced or will experience some form of domestic violence in their lifetime. And since the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) expired in February, these women and survivors are left completely unprotected.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and survivors deserve more than our words -- we must reauthorize VAWA.

Reauthorizing VAWA is one of the most important steps Congress can take to protect millions of women and survivors around the country. The House of Representatives has already passed a reauthorization bill that will improve protections for survivors, and now it’s up to the Senate.

This month, I hope you will join me in calling on the Senate to act immediately to honor and protect victims of domestic violence. Our families deserve better.

In solidarity,
Mary Gay
