The 2020 election brought us some amazing things: a Democratic trifecta in Washington, the highest voter turnout in a presidential election ever, and the opportunity to bring real change to the American people. The election also brought us a major challenge: The Republican war on voting rights.
Voting rights have been under attack for generations, but with Republican-controlled state legislatures suppressing voters’ voices, Congress has no choice but to protect American’s right to vote.
The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is critical to protecting our democracy and must be passed by Congress.
If passed, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will restore the full protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and outlaw racially discriminatory voting practices — two things that will counteract the actions of extremist state legislatures.
If the Senate doesn’t act to protect the right to vote, millions of Americans will be disenfranchised. All across the country, it is critical that every eligible voter has access to the ballot box. To protect our Democracy, we must protect the right to vote.
We must take action now to ensure that every single American can make their voices heard in the midterm elections. The future of our democracy is at stake.
