John, When Climate Justice Alliance formed in 2013, it was due in part to the recognition of the need to strengthen democratic representation of frontline community leadership at national climate movement tables, as well as in international spaces such as the UN Climate Change conferences. Frontline Communities must be front and center, since those closest to the problems are best positioned to envision the transformative solutions we need.
The 26th Annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) is taking place this November in Glasgow, Scotland, and Climate Justice Alliance members Cooperation Jackson, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, Grassroots Global Justice Alliance, Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy, East Michigan Environmental Action Council, Indigenous Environmental Network, Jobs With Justice, Just Transition Alliance, Micronesia Climate Change Alliance, Organización Boricuá de Agricultura Ecológica de Puerto Rico, Southwest Organizing Project and Urban Tilth will be on the ground. Together, we will speak truth to power as we confront global leaders, help redefine climate leadership, and ensure that community voices are heard at the highest levels of decision making. We will also push back against greenwashing and profiteers to keep false solutions to the climate crisis like geoengineering and net zero off the table.
