Dear John,

When we unite together, we have the power to make our workplaces safe.  That is why it was so crucial for our NY Essential Workers Coalition to win Worker Health and Safety Committees through the NY HERO Act. Starting November 1st, private sector workplaces with 10 or more employees can create worker committees with their employers to address any workplace health and safety issue policy, not just issues concerning Covid-19!

On Thursday, October 21st, we are hosting two online training sessions (both sessions will cover the same topic!), one at 12 PM, and one at 6PM, on how you and your colleagues can build power through these worker committees. Spanish translation will be provided! RSVP below:

When the NY Essential Workers Coalition fought for and won the NY HERO Act in May, we won the first-in-the-nation permanent airborne infectious disease standard. This is a huge victory in making sure that workers have strong, enforceable standards to keep them safe from Covid-19. Worker health and safety committees are another big step in how we can build power across the state, and set a model for the entire country informed by workers who know what is needed.

Join us for a training on Thursday October 21st, either at 12 PM or 6 PM to learn more on how we use these powerful tools to build worker power. Can’t make the training? Be sure to sign up here if you are interested in building a worker committee or supporting worker committees across New York state!

In solidarity,

Maritza Silva-Farrell
